at Nailsea

Sunday 15 June

Don’t miss it!

And we need your help!

Yes arguably the biggest sporting event ever to be held in Nailsea.

Marcus Trescothick is bringing a Somerset County Cricket Club XI to play our 1st XI at the Grove on Sunday 15th June. This follows on from the very successful Richard Johnson Twenty20 match staged two years ago at the Grove.

We are hopeful Marcus will bring many of the club’s former, current or prospective internationals such as Justin Langer (Somerset skipper and former Australian batsman), Ian Blackwell, Andy Caddick, James Hildreth as well as other Somerset first team players. Two years ago, Langer, Blackwell, Caddick and Hildreth made appearances at Johnson’s match together with other stars such as Trego, Willoughby and Wood.

Mervyn Kitchen, former Somerset cricketer and Test umpire will also be attending the match.

Match Entry - tickets available from club members, youth managers and some parents or ticket line Tel. 01275 857507.

The day comprises:

·        12 noon - pre-match professionally catered luncheon in a marquee for 150 sponsors, guests and players. After lunch speeches and auction of Marcus’s cricket memorabilia

·        2pm - Gates open to public followed by youth Kwik cricket

·        4pm - main event – Twenty20 match between Marcus’s team of Somerset stars versus Nailsea 1st XI.

Somerset will play in their coloured clothing and Twenty20 music and announcements/commentary will accompany the match.

·        Barbecue, drinks and jazz trio after the match (for those who helped stage the event)

Refreshments - the Grove bar will be open. There will also be two outlets around the ground serving tasty snacks, ice-creams, refreshments.

Raffle - there will be a raffle with many prizes – the top three being a limited edition (1 of 100) signed Marcus Trescothick’s shirt; a Somerset Championship shirt signed by the Somerset players; and a case of wine.

Proceeds from the match - go to Marcus Trescothick’s benefit fund and Nailsea CC for the promotion of youth cricket. Marcus is also supporting the very worthy Children’s Hospice South West.

Sponsorship/support - staging the event is a massive task for a small club and we are delighted to have some key sponsors. But if you have a business or know of someone who does and may be interested, we are also still looking for further support. Tables at the luncheon are still available. Alternatively, if you would like advertising space in the match programme or around the ground etc, or simply wish to make a donation please contact any club member or Dave Heath on Tel. 01275 855254. But time is getting short so please hurry.

Help needed - this is a mammoth task for the club to stage so we also need help on the day – from club members and parents of youth team members. For:

  • selling tickets at youth matches (home and away), around the town, etc
  • setting up the ground beforehand
  • gate or car park duty
  • helping with the sponsors/guests’ barbecue
  • ground stewards
  • clearing up afterwards – Sunday night (15th June )and Monday morning (16th June).

Please contact a youth manager, club member or telephone Dave Heath on Tel. 01275 855254 or email.david.heath@wessexwater.co.uk if you can help in any way.

Those that help will be able to take part in the after match barbecue and drinks celebrations, mingle with the players and enjoy the live jazz.

So please offer your services and make this a memorable event for the club and Nailsea.

Also please help to publicise the event as much as possible – tell your friends, neighbours, work colleagues, etc.

T-shirts - publicising the match are now available for sale. See your youth manager for more details or David Blower, 2nd XI captain. This is a great way to have a memento of the occasion whilst supporting the club.

Publicity - we have lots of A5 posters for circulation. If you would like some please contact your youth manager or Dave Heath. Also if you would like to help sell tickets please let us know.

Thank you in anticipation

Great start for Under 17's as Matt carries his bat

Winscombe A team set a challenging target of 137 in the first Under 17 game of the season helped by some wayward bowling from a rusty looking Nailsea attack. New South African, Darren Hope was among the wickets but 4 run outs helped restrict Winscombe a little. For Nailsea, the ever reliable Matt Cornish soon set about the bowling and, having survived an early chance in his teens, scored a brilliantly paced 87 not out to see Nailsea to an 8 wicket victory in the final over. He was given good support with a steady 10 from Marcus Tanner and a brisk 13 from James Tucker.

Calling all Qualified First Aiders Please can those of you that hold a current first aid qualification make yourself known to me!!  We need a list of personnel who meet this criteria to display on the N.C.C notice board in case of emergency.  Also if anyone is interested in gaining or updating a qualification please let me know, if there are sufficient numbers I will arrange a course.  Thank you.

Interested in coaching? If anyone is interested assisting with our youth teams and wants to gain a coaching qualification, please let team managers/committee members know as financial assistance is available in most cases.

Terry Bevan Prints  It is still possible to purchase prints for the 2006 Richard Johnson 20/20.  A copy for viewing is available at the Grove or www.terrybevan.co.uk .  Watch out for a Trescothick match print later on.
